Got better sleep and more snacks from home. I think we have everything we need at the moment.
I’m going to get down in the weeds, more for me than for you guys.
Yesterday, when I was out, the medical team met with Lara to discuss treatment and the delivery approach.
The implication was that we would begin induction Friday, despite the mother and baby being in good health. Lara and I want to push for as much time as medically reasonable to give the baby the best chance at developing and avoid more time in the NICU (he will spend time there). Ideally, we’d like to get to 36 weeks or more.
The medical team is concerned about infection, although there are no signs and the amniotic volume is good. They placed emphasis of the idea that given where she is, induction at this point is the medical standard and that the one positive fluid test is sufficient to act.
Anyway, we talked with the team today, after consulting with Lara’s brother and sister-in-law, who are a doctor and midwife, respectively. We reviewed the medical team’s literature and basis for standard of care, as well as another journal article that questioned reliance on the single test model on which they base their approach.
We all seem to be in a good place after this morning’s meeting, with the medical team seeming content to let the pregnancy go longer while monitoring for counter indications. Also this morning, we went for an ultrasound to measure the fluid and see if the baby uses his lungs. They seemed a little more comfortable.
