Back in the Hospital

Baby Jaxon worried about lil’ Jaxon

Baby Jaxon Fife Myers had been very fussy over the last few days. We presumed that this was part of normal infant behavior as he is very hungry all the time and is figure out what it means to be in a variable environment that is our universe. Saying that it’s a routine now is a bit premature as we have no idea what normal looks like. For example, I’ve discussed how Lara and I have a estranged relationship with sleep as Jaxon doesn’t care about circadian rhythms or if I am accumulating wrinkles and grey hairs as I have fewer hours of beauty sleep.

Our most recent Sunday night, however; was different. Jaxon was fussy the entire night and had a handful of minutes of sleep in between screaming, “bloody murder”. The next morning, Lara and I changed him and noticed that he had a tremendous boil-like lesion on the tip of his penis. It metaphorically appeared to pop up out of nowhere. We consulted with the Lara’s midwife sister-in-law Amanda Fowler, who at some point will ask to see our insurance card as we have her on-call for evaluations. She recommended that we take Jax to the emergency room as this appeared to be an unusual issue. While we have follow-up pediatrician appointment at Children’s National Medical Center the Monday, Lara and I took him to this hospital’s emergency room today. After all, if I had some painful growth on my johnson, I’d also want to seek immediate medical attention.

Well, that didn’t go well.

After 5 hours in the emergency room we still do not know the nature of the medical emergency. The experience was harrowing for Lara as she had to carry the house worth of baby supplies as well as the car seat. COVID restrictions allow for only one parent. In addition, the the hospital didn’t seem as organized or as helpful as one would hope. The best guess of the hospital medical professionals is Balanoposthitis, but the symptoms don’t match what Jaxon experienced. It could be chaffing associated with a monitor that Lara and I attached to him while he sleeps overnight. It could be that the clip used to attach the monitor to the diaper may have also clipped his boyhood. I’m told that after needles and disrobing, Jaxon was none to happy and proceeding to pee and poop all over.

Jaxon doesn’t appear to be in constant or particular pain, rather he’s acting as irrational as the average infant. Currently, he’s resting comfortably in his Pack n’ Play. The emergency room, not having any particular course of treatment, placed Jax on antibiotics, just in case there is an infection, and made an appointment for him to see a dermatologist bright and early. We did learn that he’s adding more weight, now over 5 pounds, soo there’s that.

I’ll keep you posted. Thanks for the support.
