Happy Two Month B-Day

On a daily basis, I do a lot of complaining about how are it is to be parents during COVID. Right now, I’m typing with one hand and trying to keep Jaxon asleep with only a pacifier and my charming personality. But seriously, Lara and I are overjoyed to have Jaxon in our lives, although we have fewer brain cells to comprehend it as a result of a lack of sleep.

Earlier this week, we celebrated Jaxon’s two month anniversary by taking him to the pediatrician for his checkup and to make sure that his nighttime crying, gas, and GURD are normal. Jaxon also received his two month vaccinations, which he took like a champ. What we also learned is that the staff at Children’s Hospital think that Jaxon is exceptionally adorable. The pediatrician went out of her way to to emphasize this – honest. Already, Jaxon is breaking hearts.

We had many questions, got a few answers but learned that as a preemie, Jaxon is basically normal. Having heard this, Lara and I are accepting that everything is normal and that there is little hope for us to get anything approaching several minutes of sleep. Also, there is little that we can do to help Jaxon through this phase of his physical and emotional development. All that we can do is take it all an stride, take advice from our wonderful friends and family, and periodically apply twelve steps principles, particularly 1, 2, 4, 10, and 12.

Seriously, we now fully understand that the lives we had or the ones we thought we would have are not what we have. We have something wonderful and challenging to build – a boy and an opportunity for Lara and I to be better than ourselves for him. As a result of this revelation, I consulted the official Parent Scouts of America guidebook. We get an official “introduction to suffering” parental badge as part of parental boot camp experience. We expect one of you parents to send our badge in the mail.

Anyway.

The short video below shows a highlight or two of Jaxon’s second month. Nothing to dramatic, just a day in the life.

Thanks everyone for your help.
