The induction process started at 10:48a. As of yet, no “significant”contractions. She has felt some tightness, which could be something as cramps can start out as vague. The expectation is that this process will take hours. She is on an I-V pole and monitor so she can’t just run around the room as some of you may presume. Lara is fine, but it’s been a long week. She occasionally takes naps, cat naps if you will. Our cats would be proud.
Big props to Morgan for risking her life on icy streets to feed our thankless cats!
Lara very much wanted to use a midwife-focused approach. As she is a Nurse Practitioner and is knowledgeable about the science of child birth, she wanted one that had a person centered approach. Our hospital practices both approaches, giving us and our baby the best possible care. Today, we met the Midwife who Lara first spoke with when she picked this practice, Margaret Montgomery . Lara is so gangsta that this Midwife, who I think is what I will call the Highwife, flew from Florida to provide care.
In an ice storm.
I’m just saying.
Our current primary nurse, Robin, has been has been a labor and delivery nurse for 30 years. She moves around pretty fast as she has about 10 other patients – well not ten – but it seems like it. Most nurses have a similar story and are experienced and knowledgeable. Robin has been somewhat strict with Lara, asking her to call if she needs to urinate. While the primary reason is to monitor her intake, she also makes sure that Lara doesn’t fall. The most recent time Lara went to the loo time, Margaret allowed her to go to the bathroom without letting Robin know beforehand. I said that Robin would be in the chastise in 45 seconds.
Guess what?
So for now, we are watching “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” with a “Dawson’s Creek” chaser. These bits of entertainment are not my first choice, but it’s not up to me. As I am me, I’m noting how nearly all 90s teen angst television is trash. I can tolerate “To All the Boys…” as some of the writing is clever, not that clever. Thanks you for all of your good thoughts. Feel free to use this forum for comments.

Thanks for the update!! I’m glad Lara and Baby G are getting great care. I’m impressed that Margaret flew to DC for her in this icy mess! Hang in there with the teen TV and give Lara some love for me. xoxo
